Fidelity Youth™

A mobile app that helps teens ages 13-17 spend, save, and invest

My work at Fidelity over the past 3 years is proprietary so sharing is difficult, but I will talk through my role on the team and what I have accomplished here.

My role

I began working on the youth app at the end of 2020 and have been a part of the team ever since. I was hired in as a solo designer then transitioned onto a full design team where I was able to collaborate and work along side some very skilled designers and researchers. I worked specifically on the investing page, profile, and home page of the application. I have been responsible for building money buckets on the Home Screen which helps teens manage and organize their money.

Challenges

I was not an avid investor when starting at Fidelity so I spent many weeks learning the ins and outs of investing. Working with teens under the age of 18 also proves to be quite challenging when it comes to performing user testing and research. Our company wide design system was also going through some major changes during the creation of the youth app.

Successes

Our money buckets feature has received positive feedback from customers via the App Store and surveys and we have seen engagement across funded accounts showing that teens are utilizing and customizing buckets.

Our money buckets feature struggled with engagement early on, but with some UI/UX design updates I was able to increase creation by 15% within two months.
